A few months back, the chatolic community from Baia Mare asked the artist to make a piece of art that would reprezent Virgin Mary as big as life, that was going to be gifted to a congregation on nunns from Pessano, Italy. "I saluted the ideea of the community from Baia Mare and I decided to support this project. To find the appropriate marble, we went to Italy this spring, from where we brought the adequate block of marble for making this statue" explains the sculptor.

The work for the statue lasted two months

The statuary marble from Carrara is extremely expensive and rare, being the most appreciated from Europe. "I took the project as challenge. When the statue was uncovered at the "Saint Anton" church and I saw people praying to it, after being beatified, I knew that my  mission has been accomplished", shown Mircea Rusu.

In this morning, the 700 kilograms statue was embaled and sent to the destination, in Italy. "I am happy about the fact that I could help and that we managed to make this gift for the nunns from Italy. Slowly, our church becomes known, and not only in the city or the county, but also over the boarders of the country", says the priest of the "Saint Anton" church, Simion Mesaros.

Display in the church

But the collaboration betwen Mircea Rusu, the artist, and the chatolic community of the "Saint Anton" Church from Baia Mare doesn't end here. "For now, I've made only the altar. The Way of the Cross is what is coming next, and a big basrelief, but also a few other marble statues. For an artist there can not be a bigger satisfaction than the fact that people are admiring his creations, moreover, that his work is a very important part of the church", concludes the artist.

"Saint Anton" chatolic church, recently built, has been included in the turistic circuit of the town that sits on the shores of the river Sasar. Mircea Rusu has exposed, through the years, his work all around the world and tought plastic arts at a University from South America. Now he is a teacher at the Nord University from Baia Mare.
